To us Islanders, this scene is something we would not think twice about. But, as I sat having lunch today it occurred to me that you mainlanders may be sitting there wondering why this guy is standing at the dock holding a long net. Well, what you can't see in this picture, is the chicken leg he has tied to a string. He is crabbing. What you do is tie the chicken to the end of a long string and toss it into the water. In a few minutes you slowly start to draw in the line. Almost always, there will be a crab clamped tightly onto the chicken. You slowly draw the crab to the surface and slide the net under him, scooping him out of the water. If you are lucky he is a good size and has some other friends underwater just waiting for you to toss the chicken leg back in. Pull in a few of them and you have a nice dinner that night!
