In the community where I work there are a number of families that are not native to our country. The language seems to be an issue for a number of them. Typically if the secretaries up front can not understand them, they come get me. I am not sure why since I do not speak any languages other than English and Typonese. The following is a conversation I had with a gentleman who spoken Spanish and Broken English....
As I approached the counter I greeted the man:
"How can I help you?"
"I have a matador"
"You have a what?
"A matador"
"Okay, where is this matador?"
"At mi casa"
"So you have a matador at your house?"
"Yes"
"I see. Well why do you have a matador?"
"Because I needed the money"
"So you make money with the matador?"
"Yes sir"
"Is this matador out on the front yard?"
"I'm sorry. I no understand"
"Well sir, that makes two of us. You have a matador out on the lawn. Does he wave a red cape?"
At this point he is staring at me with a rather weird look on his face and my secretaries are chuckling as I make the motion of a bull fighter waving a cape.
"Well sir, I am not sure why you keep a matador on your lawn but, I am required to point out that we are not zoned for bulls and frankly I think it is rather cruel to the bull anyway"
"Nooooo, I do not have a bull"
"Well then why do you have a matador?"
"Because I want to live in one half and my daughter will live in the other half and pay me rent"
"Ooooooh! You don't have a matador. You have a 'Mother/Daughter house"?!"
"Yes that is what I have been saying...."
It was at this point that all 4 of my secretaries busted out laughing so hard that they had to leave the room. I now know why they call me out to the window whenever they can not understand someone. Gotta love this place.
